2010 South Des Moines Chamber Committee Chairs
AMBASSADORS – 2010 CHAIR: CATHY STEINER
Identify new businesses in South Des Moines. Contact businesses to extend Chamber’s welcome, assures Chamber’s presence
at ribbon cuttings.
BY-LAWS – 2010 CHAIR: SHIRLEE KROUCH
Ensure that the Chamber is following the regulations created through the by-laws. Revise by-laws as new issues come up throughout the year.
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT – 2010 CHAIR: JEFF SADDORIS
Work with local groups and report to South Des Moines Chamber Board on how we can assist in their efforts. Provide assistance in planning
and promoting the Economic Development Forum. Assist with and coordinate redevelopment efforts of the South Des Moines Superblock
Development.
EDUCATION – 2010 CHAIR: VICKY FORESMAN
Promote two $500 South Des Moines Chamber of Commerce Scholarships to high school seniors who live and volunteer or work in
South Des Moines. Assist the Scholarship Selection Committee.
GOVERNMENTAL AFFAIRS – 2010 CHAIR: JOE NOLTE
Encourage awareness of the political process and arrange forums to assist in establishing relationships between Chamber members and
elected and appointed local government officials. Represent the South Des Moines Chamber of Commerce at the Greater Des Moines
Partnership Governmental Affairs meetings.
MEMBERSHIP CAMPAIGN – 2010 CHAIR: CATHY STEINER
Develop and implement plan to secure new members. Maintain existing membership levels by developing programs to encourage members to
continue to renew. Analyze non-renewals and recommend corrective actions to prevent erosion of memberships.
PROGRAMS – 2010 CHAIR: PATTI GEORGE
Provides programs for monthly membership luncheons that are informative, educational, and timely and which address the needs of
membership. Schedule, promote and attend area Business After Hours events.
SPECIAL EVENTS
This committee includes the Annual Dinner, Spring Social and Golf Outing.
Annual Dinner: Schedule date and location of Annual Dinner. Develop program and entertainment. Select award recipients from nominations received by citizens and membership.
Spring Social: Chair: Anne Shimerdla. Coordinate the Spring Social held in May. Obtain silent auction items and sponsorships. Encourage attendance and plan programs for the event.
Golf Outing: Chair: Lisa Baker. Work with West Side Des Moines, East Des Moines and Carlisle Chambers to organize annual golf outing. Work to obtain sponsorships and door prizes.
Although all three events are in one committee, you can sign up to help with each event separately.
SW NINTH BUSINESS CORRIDOR – 2010 CHAIR: ELIZABETH QUINN-LOFFREDO
Work to develop plans to improve the S.W. Ninth St. Business Corridor through beautification, road and sidewalk updates and building and
residential improvements. Guide the S.W. Ninth St. Merchants Association through its first year. Help with creation and development issues.
FOCUS AREAS / INITIATIVES
Member-to-Member Discount Program – Chairs: Lisa Baker and Pat Beckerdite Work to develop a South Des Moines Chamber discount program
Social Media Initiative – Chairs: Joe Nolte and Jamie Stephens Work to educate members on use of Social Media to promote business, and develop Facebook page for South Des Moines Chamber
Community Service Initiative – Chair: Vicky Foresman Work to develop stronger linkages between the South Des Moines community citizens and the South Des Moines Chamber through volunteer opportunities and community service projects.
