PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

The Chamber's Spring Fling was indeed a fitting conclusion for the spring season. However, before
the summer arrives, and a variety of activities arriving with it, a couple of things bear mentioning
from this recent successful event.
First, we have been fortunate to have AIB College of Business host this event for many of the last
several years. Their hospitality has always been great! And what about their new 50's style café? I
don't know when I've enjoyed more than at this year's Spring Fling.
Next, thanks to you, our members, the SDM Chamber silent auction raised $1,000 which will be presented
to Orchard Place. We were glad to have Orchard Place representatives, Tina Postel, Amy Moss and Bridgette
Wombacher as our guests and they informed us about all of the good work being done at their facility.
Lastly, our committee did its usual outstanding effort with this year's event and it remains one of
the top Chamber functions. I am already looking forward to what they will come up with for next year!
Summer is close at hand and there is a lot coming up to put on your calendar. I'd be less than honest
if I didn't say how excited I was to be participating in the 26th annual trip to Washington, D.C. Aside
from some early site seeing, I was privileged to witness the greatest civics lesson I will probably ever
get. The Partnership went with a large, detailed agenda in hopes of returning with millions of dollars in
Government appropriations for a variety of metropolitan projects and economic development. More to come on
that!
Another group of select SDM Chamber members is currently meeting to map out our vision for South Des
Moines. The Plans are to develop a marketing piece for South Des Moines venues, residential and commercial
development, and have it distributed locally through the news media reminding Des Moines residents to "think
south." This vision committee plans to detail this agenda before the end of summer.
In the meantime, there are Chamber Business B4 breakfast networking opportunities scheduled monthly
through September. Also, don't forget the I-Cubs game and annual golf outing with East Des Moines and Carlisle
Chambers. Like I said, there's a lot to do. I hope to see all of you at these great events!
Craig Krouch, 222-2377

BOARD MEMBER OF THE MONTH - CRAIG KROUCH

| Craig has been active in the South Des Moines Chamber since 1995 and has served as a committee volunteer,
Board Member, and officer. A Vice President for West Bank, since 1991, where community involvement is greatly
encouraged, Craig enjoys Chamber networking, developing long term relationships with Chamber members, and
promoting Chamber businesses.
He enjoys living in South Des Moines because it is very similar to living in the same size community as
Marshalltown, where he grew up. " Being active in the Chamber is one of the most enjoyable aspects of being a
southsider. Anyone who knows me knows how much I love the Chamber. That's probably because of the great
leadership and involvement passed down from other long time Chamber members over the years - like Dr. Eidbo,
Mary Bickford, Jim Lane, Nancy Williams, and many others. If you know them, you know how compassionate they
are about our community, promoting our businesses, and interacting with our members. It rubs off!"
Craig is the father of two great children. Son, Brandon, is serving in the United States Navy and
stationed in Mississippi, while waiting for the Navy's newest ship to be commissioned. Daughter, Lindsay,
is a recent graduate of Iowa State University and currently studying English Literature in England. Craig
enjoys golf, volunteers for a variety of organizations, and traveled with the Greater Des Moines Partnership
this month to Washington, D.C. "I've waited all my life to see the Capitol. It was the greatest civics lesson,
and, hopefully, will result in millions of dollars for Des Moines."
In addition to serving as this year's Chamber President, Craig is also Co-Chair for Membership. If anyone
is interested in be-
coming more active in the Chamber, please call him at 222-2377.
THANK YOU, CRAIG, FOR ALL THAT YOU DO FOR THE CHAMBER!

The program included the presentation of two $500 scholarships being presented to two local students,
