| PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE |
| |
Hats
off to those who volunteered and participated during October's Membership Blitz!
We had a
great time renewing memberships and welcoming two new
businesses as South Des Moines Chamber members: Xtreme Home
Improvements and Carlos O'Kelly's. Look for a ribbon cutting
this month at the new Carlos O'Kelly's at 6250 SE 14th (next
to Walgreens). Your renewals and new memberships are helping
us plan, budget, organize the coming year's events, and
publish a Membership Directory in early 2006. Thanks to Mary
Ellen Nicklaus (Clarke Companies), Sadie Smid (Allegra Print
& Imaging), Diana Thomas (Community State Bank), David
Harkin (American Express Financial Advisors), Dr. Sara Neil
(South Des Moines Chiropractic), John Irving (Baker
Electric) and Shirlee Buschow (AIB) for their efforts.
Prizes from Tumea & Sons Italian Restaurant, Southridge Mall
and Hy Vee (Fleur) were awarded to Mary Ellen Nicklaus,
Sadie Smid and some guy from West Bank.
We still
have two more great events planned for this year. I hope you
can attend our November 15th membership luncheon at Wakonda
Club featuring Ron Mark from Summerset Inn & Winery, and our
Christmas luncheon December 13th at the Four Points Sheraton
featuring the Lincoln High School Choir and a power point
presentation from Don Tripp (Director of Des Moines Park &
Rec) on economic development in Des Moines during the last
decade. Both should be fun, entertaining, and always great
for networking.
As I
mentioned earlier regarding an upcoming ribbon cutting for
this month, it may very well turn out that we have 2 ribbon
cuttings. I hope that by now you all know that all members
are welcome to attend these and, in fact, we'll be looking
for more members to join our group of "Ambassadors" in 2006.
If you would like to join this group, or become more
informed about this group, please attend one of these
upcoming events. This is a great way to get to know more
members, owners, to network, and to see what is going on and
what is new on the south side. Either you, or one of your
co-workers are invited to join us. We'd love to have you!
By the
time you receive this newsletter, it will practically be the
start of the "holiday shopping season". Please remember to
shop and support your fellow Chamber members and to use your
Membership Directory whenever possible. If you want to learn
more about the Chamber or how the Chamber can promote your
business, please give me, or one of our board members a
call.
Your success is our constant goal!
Craig
Krouch, 222-2377
President

| MEMBERSHIP LUNCHEON - TUESDAY, DECEMBER 13, 2005 |
| |
| NOTE: CHANGE IN DATE AND LOCATION!
This year's Holiday luncheon will be held at the Four Points Sheraton on Tuesday, December 13th at 11:30 A.M.
Again this year, the Lincoln High School Choir will be providing a selection of holiday music for us. If you
attended last year, you'll want to come back for this one too. The Chamber is donating $100.00 to the LHS Choir
to help raise money for new robes. We invite attendees at this event to also donate, as we will "pass the hat"
to raise more money for the Choir.

Also on the program is Des Moines Park and Rec Director Don Tripp who will present a power point presentation
on the economic growth in Des Moines during the past decade. This lunch meeting will be both entertaining and
informative as we reflect on the many new additions to not only the south side, but the entire community.

Business of the Month will be Carlos O'Kelly's.

Please mark your calendars for this one! RSVP to 286-4996 no later than NOON on FRIDAY, December 9.

| |
TO AWARD PRINT SERVICES TO
LOCAL NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS
FootPRINT Fund designed to help charities and associations "leave a footprint" in the community
The Allegra Print & Imaging of Des Moines FootPRINT Fund, will help nonprofit organizations "leave a
footprint" in the community by awarding print services for promotional and informational materials.
The Allegra Print & Imaging of Des Moines FootPRINT Fund will award $15,000 annually to nonprofit
organizations and associations seeking financial assistance for graphic design and printing of brochures,
newsletters, handouts, invitations, programs and other print communications. Applicants that qualify are
eligible to receive up to $1,000 each in 2006. This is the second year Allegra Print & Imaging is sponsoring
this grant. In 2005 there were 56 applicants with 21 awarded recipients.
"Providing community support is an important goal at Allegra Print & Imaging in Des Moines," said Jim
Eaton & Pat Rhoades, owners. "The FootPRINT Fund was created to provide a means of helping local organizations
receive assistance in an area that may not be addressed by other funding sources."
Allegra Print & Imaging of Des Moines launched the FootPRINT Fund as part of its Community Care Campaign,
a nationwide effort supported by the company's franchise headquarters, Allegra Network. The FootPRINT Fund
was developed to help unite and strengthen local communities by assisting eligible nonprofit organizations
and associations in building their awareness and increasing local support.
To be considered for a FootPRINT Fund award, nonprofit groups, associations and charitable organizations
with a main office or branch in Des Moines, IA must submit a completed application by December 1, 2005.
Application forms may be obtained at 1000 Thomas Beck Rd, or apply online at www.allegradsm.com.
Award recipients are selected by a review panel based on how the print services will be used to further
organization goals including service expansion, program enhancement and maximization of existing resources,
as well as the organization's innovation and resourcefulness. All applicants will be notified in writing of
their award by December 31, 2005.
"This program is a way for us to make a difference in our community, one step at a time. Here at Allegra
Print & Imaging of Des Moines, we feel that it is extremely important to reach out to those in need and help
our local organizations and associations leave their 'footprints' in the community," added Eaton & Rhoades.
"Since opening in 1978, we have provided print services to more than 1,500 area businesses and organizations."

| Thanksgiving Day Dinner: |
| |
| You are invited to help make others happy on Thanksgiving Day. Thanksgiving is a time to be with family
and friends. It's hard to believe that some people don't have anyone to be with on that day or cannot afford
to have a Thanksgiving dinner.
Southgate Lodge, at S.W. 12th & Randolph, will welcome those who would like to have Thanksgiving dinner.
Dinner will be served from 11:30 A.M. to 1:30 P.M. Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 24th).
Anyone who would like to help with food or cash donations, or with your personal time, please contact
Dwayne Feight at 285-6805. This is a great way for the southside community to express our compassion for
others and to urge NO ONE to be alone or go hungry on Thanksgiving Day!

| FAREWELL TO BOARD MEMBERS |
| |
| The Chamber annually holds its planning session each November and this year welcomed 4 new members to the
Board of Directors. We also bid farewell to 5 retiring board members.
We say goodbye to Cyndi Lorenzen who served on many committees including Steak Fry/Spring Fling and
Membership; Dave McClannahan is a past-president and previously chaired the Steak Fry Committee; John Kirchoff
is moving to the Ankeny Chamber; Gary Calvert served on both Economic Development and Golf Committees; and Ron
Wyckoff co-chaired the Steak Fry/Spring Fling Committee and served on the Golf Committee. These retiring board
members are all, of course, volunteers, southsiders, and committed to both the Chamber and our community. They
all served with distinction and we thank them for their years of service.
We are pleased to welcome new board members Dianna Thomas, Andy Wyckoff, Lin Phillips, and Chad Alley.
We'll see all of them, and you, at our next Chamber event!
