| PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE |
| |
Even though summer is going by quickly, remember to take time to experience the great things that the south side has to offer. As family and friends come to visit, show off our beautiful Gray's Lake. Take an evening stroll over the lighted bridge, or rent a paddle boat and lay on the beach during the day. Need a break from the heat? Go to Southridge Mall and enjoy the many restaurants, stores and movie theatres. Skate South is another fun place to go! The Blank Park Zoo is always a welcoming place for kids of all ages. With all of our walking and biking trails, fabulous restaurants, golf courses, parks, and stores, there is never a reason to be bored!
The South Des Moines Chamber is pleased to be part of the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at the Re-Grand Opening at
Walmart at 5101 SE 14th Street. Please mark your calendars to attend our Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to welcome Club
2000 on Indianola Road, on August 24th at 10:00am. Club 2000 is a fabulous place to get together with friends for
lunch, dinner, or a drink! Let's remember to patronize our south side businesses and keep our community strong.
If you know someone that would like more information about joining our SDM Chamber, please give me or any of our
board members a call!
Have a fabulous summer!
Juliana Kincheloe, President

| BUSINESS OF THE MONTH - AIB COLLEGE OF BUSINESS |
| |
| AIB College of Business celebrated its 85th Anniversary in June of this year. Founded in 1921, the independent,
nonprofit College has been an active member of the South Des Moines Chamber for over 20 years and is also a member
of the Chamber’s Golden Leadership Circle. AIB President Nancy Williams, Vice President for Advancement Joan Bindel
and President Emeritus Keith Fenton, are all past presidents of the South Des Moines Chamber.
AIB is often referred to as Des Moines’ best kept secret. While some believe the College is located on the corner
of Fleur Drive and Bell Avenue, the south side recognizes that the College has an enrollment of nearly 900 day,
evening and online students with a campus that features 17 buildings on 20 acres near downtown Des Moines.
AIB is well-known in the Des Moines area and throughout the state for providing quality education to students
pursuing careers in business. More than 8,000 alumni who attended the private college reside in Iowa. AIB offers
Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S) degree programs in the fields of accounting, business administration, realtime
reporting including judicial and closed captioning, office administration, travel and tourism, and information
technology. Business administration degrees are offered in the areas of leadership, financial services, and sales
and marketing. Residential apartment-style housing is also available for 520 students.
Under the leadership of AIB President Nancy Williams, the College received approval in February to begin offering
Bachelor of Science Degrees. Beginning in September, AIB graduates and community college graduates with an
associate degree will be able to take classes at AIB to earn a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration or
Accounting. The program will offer practical business curriculum and convenient class times for working adults.
For more information on AIB College of Business or degree programs, contact the AIB Admissions Office at (515)
246-5358.

| MEMBERSHIP LUNCHEON - TUESDAY, JULY 18, 2006 |
| |
|
The July 18 membership luncheon at Wakonda Club at 11:30 am will feature
Deb Rinner from Tero International
TOPIC: "BUSINESS ETIQUETTE"
Are there skills that can pave the way for us to engage trust, demonstrate our credibility, and communicate
reliability to others?
There are, and it pays to know them. Business Etiquette is a "business intelligence" which directly influences
our ability to project a consistent positive image and form successful, lasting relationships. It is the defining
difference whether utilized at networking functions, or in the numerous daily encounters on the job, and when
interviewing for a job.
Deborah will share business etiquette you can put immediately to use to affect your ability to create and sustain
positive relationships. These are the skills necessary to thrive not just survive in today's marketplace.
Cost $15 per person with reservation; $20 per person without reservation.
Please RSVP to 286-4996 by NOON on FRIDAY, JULY 14!
